Delirio.NET : Come hai trovato il nome Dita Von Teese?
Quando ho posato per la prima volta per la Special Edition di Playboy prima di apparire sulla copertina nel Dicembre 2002, ero conosciuta solamente col nome "Dita" in pubblicazioni fetish. Playboy mi disse che dovevo assolutamente avere un cognome, e che non potevo essere conosciuta solo come Dita. Così, mentre cercavo sugli elenchi del telefono sotto i nomi che iniziavano con "von", trovai il nome "Von Treese" che aveva un suono piacevole. Sembrava uno scherzo, così non presi la mia scelta troppo seriamente. Quando il numero di Playboy uscì, mi accorsi che avevano scrivvo “Von Teese”, sbagliando, e continuarono a farlo in una dozzina di altri numeri dopo quello, così l'ho tenuto.
Non ho mai usato il mio vero nome perché se dai un'occhiata alle star dell'era d'oro hollywodiana, nessuno usava il proprio vero nome. Si doveva creare e mantenere un'immagine glamour, iniziando col giusto nome. Anche quelli che suonavano reali in realtà non lo erano... Stanwyck, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner... tutti inventati. Delirio.NET : Quando hai iniziato la tua carriera di modella senza veli?
Ho iniziato quando avevo diciott'anni. Lavoravo in una boutique di lingerie a quel tempo, ed ero già una collezionista di lingerie vintage. Era il 1990, avevo appena acquistato il mio primo autentico corsetto con stecche d'acciaio, e volli essere fotografata con quello addosso. Poco tempo dopo, ho scoperto l'erotica vintage, che includeva molte immagini fetish, così ho portato avanti la scelta di posare come modella fetish perché il pubblico sembrava più interessato in calze con riga, corsetti e tacchi alti che che a qualsiasi altra cosa. Il nudo non è stato mai un problema per me. Sono cresciuta ammirando le foto su Playboy che sbirciavo di nascosto sotto al letto di mio padre, e ho sempre desiderato essere ammirata in quel modo, così bello e ultrafemminile.
Delirio.NET : Tu e Marilyn Manson siete promessi sposi. Ma qual è la vostra vera vita?
Quello che vedi di noi, è quello che siamo nella nostra vita normale. Siamo molto riservati, non andiamo a feste notturne. Amiamo la compagnia l'uno dell'altra e ci piace guardare film, leggere libri, a me diverte cucinare… ma facciamo tutto questo col nostro stile, mai in pantaloni da jogging.
Delirio.NET : Quello che tutti vorrebbero sapere è se Manson in realtà è un dolce e romantico fidanzato...
Lo è per me, certamente, ma non esistono garanzie che chiunque riesca a vedere quel lato di lui! Mi regala mazzi di rose, regali premurosi e lettere d'amore. Non sarei rimasta con lui per questi quattro anni se non fosse stato romantico.

Best known for her cocktail glass show in which she performs an old fashioned strip tease that culminates with her submerging herself in an oversized champagne or martini glass (complete with strawberry or olive sponge respectively), Dita has performed her shows at events throughout the US, as well as in the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Russia, Hong Kong, Vienna. Evoking the spirit of traditional burlesque, Dita has appeared at several high profile events for designers like Marc Jacobs, Christian Louboutin, Roland Mouret, Louis Vuitton, Agent Provocateur, and Jade Jagger for Garrard. Delirio.NET asked some questions and the Queen answered as follow.
Delirio.NET : How did you come up with the name Dita Von Teese?
When I first posed for Playboy's Special Editions before I was on the cover in December 2002, I had been known only by the name "Dita" in fetish publications. Playboy told me I absolutely had to have a last name, and that I could not be known just as Dita. So I was searching through the telephone books under names that began with "von", and I found the name "Von Treese" which had a nice ring to it. At the time, it was sort of all in good fun, so I didn't take my selection very seriously at all. When the Playboy issue came out they mispelled it "Von Teese", which they continued to do in about a dozen issues after that, so I kept it.
I never used my true name because if you really take a look at the stars of the golden age of Hollywood, not one person used their given names. It was all about creating and maintaining a glamorous image, starting with the right name. Even the ones that sounded real were not... Barbara Stanwyck, Rita Hayworth, Ava Gardner... all fabricated. I adore the idea of created beauty and mystery!
Delirio.NET : When did you start nude modeling?
I started when I was eighteen. I worked in a lingerie boutique at the time, and I was already collecting vintage lingerie. This was in 1990, and I had just purchased my very first steel boned true corset and I wanted to be photographed in it. Soon after that, I discovered vintage erotica, which included many fetishistic images, so I pursued fetish modeling because that audience seemed most interested in seamed stockings, corsets and high heels than anyone else at the time. The nudity was never an issue for me. I grew up admiring Playboy photos that I sneaked peeks at under my father's bed, and I always wanted to be seen in that ultra-feminine, beautiful way.
Delirio.NET : You and Manson are getting married. How is the real life of you?
What you see of us is what we are in our normal lives. We are very private, we don't have nightly parties. We enjoy each other's company and enjoy watching films, reading books, and I enjoy cooking...but we do all this with our own style, never in jogging pants.
Delirio.NET : What everybody would like to know is rocker Manson a sweet, romantic boyfriend?
He is to me, of course, but there are no guarantees that anyone else gets to see that side to him! He gives me bouquets of roses, thoughtful gifts and love letters. I wouldn't have been with him for that past four years if he weren't romantic.
